Our students thirst for texts that inspire them to share their thoughts/opinions AND relate to topics and themes that they care about.
One of the challenges our school faces is that many of our students read below grade level. Because of this, we often struggle to find texts that both fit into the curriculum while also "meeting students where they are."
The English III team believes that "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett can help us achieve these goals. "The Help" is both challenging AND engaging, presents a range of important historical issues for discussion, and is ripe for literary analysis.
