My ELLs bring a wealth of culture and inquiry into our class. They come from economically disadvantaged households, and they are all learning English as a new language. They are eager to learn, study, and utilize the resources we have at school. I am lucky to work in grade k-4 classrooms supporting language development too. In my class, I facilitate small groups of student-centered learning. We have a great group of dedicated teachers and administrators in our school building. However, the community struggles financially, and we face many cut backs. Cut backs impact the resources we receive and incorporate into daily teaching models. Research shows that education is a way out of poverty, and I want to ensure my students have the skills and opportunities that they yearn for and deserve. I'm also hoping to provide mindful after school programs that my students can participate in and continue to grow.
