My students are from a very rural community. A friend who just moved here said it was like moving to Little House On the Prairie. We have just under 400 students in the school K-5. Many students come from single parent homes and middle class or poor families. Our school system makes cuts all the time to save money.
The students absolutely love music. I want to give them every opportunity to learn and be able to express their creative sides. They have not been given this opportunity for 2-3 years as the previous teacher had no real interest in elementary music. Now the students come in asking to play the limited number of instruments we have. They want more, they want an Orff ensemble. They saw one perform and now they want to do the same, we just need the instruments.
Our school was able to let me purchase some unpitched percussion instruments and the students "LOVE" them. The school is not able to allow me to purchase anything larger. There is no money.
