Our students are Native Americans in a small community in a big state. Our students achieve at all levels, so they work well together in our small classes. The school is rural and underfunded, but we make the most of the resources we have. Most days, we don't even think about how little we have because we are all aware of how rich we are in enthusiasm, love, and support. Our students genuinely care for each other and our school, and when it comes to teamwork, they are all champions. These close-knit kids are athletes, artists, scholars, and activists. They participate in their community's cultural activities and maintain a balance between their very special Native traditions and the mainstream world in which they may one day play a big part. They all learn early, though, that the most important thing about getting out into the world is to bring the benefits back to the community. I am very, very proud of our students and honored to have the privilege of being their teacher.
