The school is in a large urban area. The building does not house a library, gym, or art room. The classrooms are the location for many specials; i.e art. The students are accustomed to the environment and many reside with family that have been in the area since birth. The students that come to our school are diverse in many attributes. First, a good portion have single parent families. Next, the parents have limited resources and do not fully understand the education system; this makes it difficult for them to help their children at home. The main source of support comes from teachers that are willing to come in early, stay after school for tutoring, work through lunch and planning breaks to ensure the students' needs are met, both academically and socially.
