All of my students are economically disadvantaged. Many do not have technology at home. By using technology in the classroom in every day lessons it allows the students to become familiar with the many diverse ways questions can be asked and answered.
As you may or may not be aware, many of the state tests are moving toward being completed on the computer. The only way to ensure that the students are comfortable with technology is by using technology. Not just every couple of weeks but by using it daily.
I chose the Kindle fires because they are small enough to be easily used by lower elementary students and are user friendly. The Kindles are very vesitile. I can have the students read digital books, participate in group lessons, complete interactive teacher led lessons on sites like Nearpod, have books read to them or have them participate in a Kahoot! review. The educational apps that are available will also help the students get practice in areas they are struggling in.
