My art students are all elementary grades from K through 5, and the school is of the highest need. Daily, one hundred percent of the student population receives free breakfast and lunch. There are several English language learners in the school population, and transient students join the population throughout the school year. Although the school is high need, it is also highly caring. Teachers, support staff, and administration in the school work hard to create a caring environment. Parent participation is seen daily at student pick-up, in Math and Reading Night events, in PTO events, and in community events such as concerts and monthly student awards ceremonies. School pride is a daily reminder for students, in addition to their daily lesson targets. The school's focus is not merely to make better readers or thinkers in math, although students reading levels are improving all the time, but to also develop our students' character as well.
