Think of a phone from 100 years ago and compare it the latest smartphone; the innovation has been incredible. Think of a car from 100 years ago and compare it to the latest make and models; it takes your breath away how far we've come.
Think of a classroom environment from 100 years ago and compare it to a classroom today, is it any different? Students still sit in hard-back chairs. Students still sit at wooden desks. Students still spend a majority of the day in desks, sitting down. How can we innovate? How can we dare to be greater?
Constantly, I hear my students grumble about how uncomfortable sitting in a metal chair all day can be. I love the idea of flexible/alternate seating. Teaching in a computer classroom, however, I'm limited by the outlets in the wall as to where my computers can be. Having the Gaiam Balance Chairs would give our students the opportunity to sit in a chair that builds a stronger, healthier posture, promotes student movement, and pushes the limits of what a classroom can be.
