My students come from a low socioeconomic status. Most if not all receive free lunch due to their low income. Despite their hardship, my first graders are happy, kind, and eager to learn. They love to read and listen to stories and they love to TALK! This year, I have a student who has prosthetics on both legs. However, he never complains or wants special treatment. If anything, he wants to be like everyone else. When we gather on the floor, I always ask him and the girls who are wearing a skirt to sit on a chair. However, he always wants to sit on the cold, dirty floor like everyone else. He and all of my other students deserve better. My school is a great school. We have an awesome staff who go above and beyond to help our students. However, because we service students from Pre-K to 5th grade, obtaining new resources, especially costly resources, are difficult.
