I have been teaching for 6 years and have lived here in Massachusetts for 18 years. In the area I live in, it is clear that some towns have a bigger advantage over my students. I love my job and I love teaching the students I teach. However, there are some challenges in teaching in a low income school district. Our classroom is out-dated and the learning materials and technology is pretty outdated too. I use what is given to me and I do have to purchase some items to to make sure that my students have what they need. I want to be able to teach my students on the same playing field that other school districts. Due to the area I teach, my students come into my classroom with a learning deficit in reading and vocabulary. This is why I am always asking for donations for them. If I can give them a classroom that is stocked with the tools need to make them successful, maybe I can close that learning deficit.
