"Reading is not for me!" Unfortunately, I have heard this phrase too often in my English classroom. I teach three tenth grade, English II classes and I want my students to appreciate reading and love it as much as I do. A lot of my students have been turned off from reading because they are assigned books that they cannot relate to or some teacher has used reading as a form of punishment. I also have special needs students in my class who are not fluent readers. The school system has allowed these students to reach my class, and many do not have the basic fundamentals to read a novel. Building my classroom library, exposing, and introducing them to wonderful books that can enhance their reading skills and comprehension would be awesome. Reading more everyday will help and improve SAT scores, other state exams, college courses, etc. Reading is essential for life.
