I teach in a high poverty area where students have a lot more going on in their lives than just school. Students come to school with a lot extra stress and nervousness due to their home lives, which takes a toll on their academic lives. Whether they have a parent in jail or a parent who is sick, or just financial stresses that they see in their household, these kids come to school with a lot of stress. Being able to move constantly gets the fidgets out and helps settle their busy minds to help them focus solely on academics.
