Our school is over 70% free and reduced lunch and is located in a small town with a population of less than two thousand people.
My students come from all different backgrounds and have many different stories. Some parents are not there to help after school and some help too much. My kids work hard to succeed despite some of their set backs. We have been encouraging help from the community and parents to make our first grade year more successful, but have found it hard to fill volunteer spots.
My students come to school every day, eager to learn and willing to try. They sit in the same classroom that I sat in when I was in 2nd grade. I am overjoyed to be working back in my hometown and want to, not only help my students improve, but to also help my community improve.
