"The more you read, the more you'll know, the more you learn, the more places you'll go!"-Dr. Seuss. I teach 2nd grade at a school in which 50% of our students are ESL/English Language Learners, and 95% of our students are on free/reduced lunch. My students face more than the average set of challenges in their daily life; however, I am proud to say that I work for a "No Excuses" school. We believe that although our students face these challenges, it is our duty to teach them that education is their key to a successful future, "No excuses!" We know that the only way for our students to better themselves and their future success is to arm them with a good education; therefore, we teach them that although there are many things in their lives beyond their control, their school work and ability to learn is not. They can make excuses for other things, but not for their school work and education! Providing text and time to read it is a HUGE factor in helping our students in class and in life!
