My first grade students live in a low socio-economic area and have limited resources. We are a Title 1 school which provides intensive support for my students who struggle with the general education curriculum. The student's come from a variety of backgrounds with many having only one parent in the home. Our school provides free breakfast and lunch to help meet their emotional needs. Many of my students learn best hands-on with engaging activities. It is so rewarding to see what hands-on, activities do for their self-esteem and reading development. These activities reduce the students stress level and make reading fun! They soon forget their reading struggles and become a more confident reader.
