My students are an awesome group of teenagers with a love for learning. Many of them are born and raised in Brooklyn and have faced a variety of challenges in their lives to make it to where they are today. They have always struggled with math and are performing far below grade level. Many of my students are highly motivated and on track to pursue an International Baccalaureate Diploma, which requires them to complete 2 math classes, Algebra 1 and Geometry, in their Freshman year. I also teach a large number of ELLs, many of whom are recent immigrants. Some of these students have large gaps in their education and are not only trying to learn math, but also the English language and the social skills needed to be successful in a classroom. I also teach many students with IEPs. Graphing calculators are a tool that can be used to help all of my students have success in math. My students come from low-income backgrounds and do not have the means to purchase their own calculators.
