Students will learn how to make music rather than just learn about music which all too often is the case in inner city schools. Students will also learn music theory and harmonic analysis which is perfectly suited for piano keyboard students. Our school is a small career technical school. While the Arts are not a priority in career tech schools learning piano is a great opportunity for them to develop life long skills they will enjoy for a life time. Piano is also a great way for students to develop their fine motor skills and their ability to develop organizational structures in their head. This is particularly important as we have a large special education population that will be well served by this project. We will start with basics of piano keyboard, then move into popular music for the piano and transition our way into classical works for the piano.
