Not all children learn the same way. First grade students are little and need lots of movement and sensory input. Sitting on a hard chair at a table isn't necessarily the best way to tap into their full potential or focus! Many teachers at my school provide my students with some flexible seating choices versus the traditional hard chairs, and I would like to offer this to my students.
Wobble stools, cushions and balls allow a rocking motion while students work, which can be calming and organizing for the brain, helping children focus more, especially those with attention difficulties. They also helps develop core muscles, allowing the mind and body to work in sync. Just as I flex my instruction style to reach our different types of learners, I would like to flex my seating options to meet their different needs as well.
