My students' need to be practicing math skills each day of the school year…with challenging activities that target important math standards in operations, algebraic thinking, fractions and more! We need to focus on building conceptual understanding and procedural skills. "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself" - John Dewey. TIME for Kids magazine provide engaging, real-world issues for my students to analyze, read, and discuss. Covering current events is a must, especially in fifth grade! There is a lot that is happening and our world and my students need a place where they can be educated on the topics, as well as given a venue to discuss them.
