My students are special education preschoolers who are between three and five years of age. Each student has an individual education plan. Most students come to my classroom not talking. An environment is set up for them in which to become successful communicators through work and play.
The students feel at ease in their first visit to the classroom with their parents because it is set up to be a place to play and learn. It is my goal to enhance the classroom environment for all students to be successful.
Our program is supported with two paraprofessionals, an occupational therapist, speech therapist and physical therapist. One of my biggest goals is for the students to learn through play.
Most students leave our classroom ready for Kindergarten or reaching their individual potential. The joy and satisfaction of
increased communication is apparent.
We are in a public school in a low socioeconomic city in Indiana.
