For many of my English Language learners in Providence, RI, the hours they spend in school are the best hours of their day. Why not, then, create a space that makes them feel truly comfortable and safe while they are learning? With flexible seating, this would be possible. Flexible seating provides students with choice in where they will work based on what is best for them. While some like traditional desks, others like to work while balancing on a yoga ball, sitting on barstools, or in a comfy chair. Flexible seating allows each student to work where they will produce their best work. Funding my project means helping my ELLs get a space all their own where they will be comfortable, safe, and more ready to learn. It also means providing the opportunity to collaborate, problem solve, and become independent workers.
