The students in my classroom are all first graders who have a disability in the area of reading and are currently reading below grade level. Each of these students comes with additional needs including attention issues, autism, speech deficits, behavior needs, and physical needs. Because of their reading disability, they need a great deal of repeated practice and concepts presented using various instructional strategies. They all have a great desire to feel successful.
Our school is an elementary school housing 1st grade through 5th grade classes. We are the only elementary school within our district. Our school strives to help all children learn and let them know how valued they are as individuals. Our school currently has 60% of it's population who receive free lunch due to their low income status.
