My students come from diverse backgrounds and economic statuses. We have a population of 12,000 in our town, so we only have one high school. I teach all 140-160 sophomores who come through our door. Some students come in loving to read while others are less than enthusiastic. The common denominator with all kids is the desire to read interesting literature that reaches them on an emotional level. We live in a highly-tested state. The pressure student's feel overwhelms them at times. Unfortunately, many of our teachers feel forced to "teach to the test." America's future deserves better! My kids deserve better.
