All students, especially ones with Autism, need a learning enviornment that is calm, soothing, and peaceful. My goal is to create a classroom environment where the children feel safe, secure, ready to focus and begin learning. Many children on the specturm are sensitive to lights, colors and smells. Creating a learning enviornment that looks, smells, and sounds peaceful will help relax the mind and body. Once the student feels safe and comfortable in the classroom atmosphere the learning can begin. Many children on the spectum feel great comfort in small spaces as well. I have chosen a Cozy Box for the students to add to their Calm Down Corner. Through modeling I will teach the children this is a place to go relax, calm down, regroup and feel secure.
