My school is a preK-2 building. It is a very diverse, high poverty school with 97% of the students qualified to receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students come to school with many barriers to learning. They are active and many have a difficult time sitting in their seats. The more active they are, the more they are not able to learn.
Chairs are not safe for many of these active learners. Tipping back, falling off of their chairs, and moving about the room are common problems we have in our classroom. My classroom is an active learning environment, however, some students have a difficult time concentrating when others are moving around them.
