My students on the Autism Spectrum are nonverbal and often have a difficult time managing their sensory needs. Having meaningful opportunities for them to take a break when overstimulated helps them regain their control faster and be able to finish out their activites or tasks. Things like tactile balls, blocks that can be used on a light box, and other sensory input items are important to have available in a variety of choices. These are not only helping to provide these students with the sensory breaks they need but can also be very educational. I hope to begin a large collection of these sensory items.
