There is a term we often use in early education, 'a 1000-book kid'. This term is used to describe students who has read 1000 books before he or she enters Kindergarten. These students most likely will not have trouble learning how to read in school. On the other hand, I work 1-on-1 with struggling readers everyday. These students, most of the times, do not come to school with this rich book environment due to different reasons. I want to give them the same opportunity to read a variety of books with me so they can have the same experience.
With these new story books, students will be able to engage and enjoy different genres of children's literature. They will become confident readers and will be happy to read someone a book by the time they finish working with me.
They will also benefit from having the sensory tools to focus and learn more effectively. Struggling readers learn through different paths. I can accommodate this by using different sensory tools. Every child is unique and I want to acknowledge that.
