I'm finding younger students are more engaged in their learning when they are able to wiggle. Sitting in hard plastic chairs all day prompts them to wiggle, but for all the wrong reasons. They are uncomfortable. Chairs are too big sometimes and learning is difficult. I myself prefer sitting on the floor as opposed to on a plastic chair. We don't have carpet on our floor now. My plan is to lower our tables as low as they can go so the student can sit on the floor or a small cushion/pillow. I've watched this happen successfully for the last 4 years in the classroom across the hall. I would very much like to give it a try in my room this year and for years to come.
