School closures and COVID have affected our students in more ways than we can possibly imagine . Of the many barriers to education caused by COVID, one awesome side is the initiative to get technology in the hands of all students. My students have 1:1 access to laptops for the first time. I need to be able to share my screen with them when modeling different platforms or materials.
The board in my classroom is an old projector style board and it is extremely difficult to see and the colors are severely lacking. It is something I use daily but try to limit its use as my students often complain (rightfully so) that they can't see. In order to, solve this problem I will turn off the lights, but then it makes it difficult for them to see the work on their desks and makes it unsafe to maneuver the classroom for me and my students.
My students need to be able to see notes and videos connected to our learning in math and computer science. When the video colors are distorted or difficult to read my students miss out on learning. I am trying to make sense of math in the real world and use music videos to help students understand the material.
I have decided to ask that this money be used toward the purchase of TV screen. The screen will work like a computer monitor. I can connect wirelessly with chromecast to display my computer, or with an HDMI cord to use my document camera. It is a cost efficient way to improve the quality of the screen and get my students learning in full color.
