I teach at Battle Creek Elementary where my students come to school bubbling with excitement to learn every day. My school is a high poverty school in Saint Paul, MN where 88% of students receive free or reduced lunches. Over 1/2 of the students in my classroom are learning English as a second language. I also teach in a special education co-taught classroom where including every child is a priority.
Kindergarten is a magical year where play is a cornerstone of learning. Every day my students engage in active play with their peers. During this time, students are free to explore and engage in play-based learning centers that focus around a universal theme with overarching big ideas. They are free to make choices, activate their voice and work and learn alongside their peers. Their love of learning inspires me each day and I am proud to be their teacher.
