The resources I chose for my project are Legos and Lego baseplates. The Lego wall will be constructed by gluing baseplates to a piece of wood and installing it on a wall for all children K-5, to utilize during STEM class as well as before school.
As children grow, preparing them for the demands of school and the wider society is critical. According to Winthrop & McGivney, 2016; Frey, Fisher, & Hattie, 2016; content only helps children as far as they can apply and build on it: a child who has not grasped the concepts of addition and subtraction stands little chance of understanding equations. Conceptual understanding that allows them to connect concepts and skills, apply their knowledge to different situations, and spark new ideas is critical to allow children to apply ideas and concepts learned in content. (Winthrop & McGivney, 2016; Frey, Fisher, & Hattie, 2016).
Additionally, according to Karaski, Tamis, LeMonda,& Adolph, 2014, research in the last few decades has repeatedly shown that the different domains of development are not stand alone components; rather they are interconnected gears:development in one area can influence development in another."
