Many of my students do not have the basic school supplies necessary for our every day activities. Students have to share their limited supplies; thus becoming too preoccupied trying to find a classmate to borrow from, that it takes time away from their learning. Instructions that should have taken a short amount of time drag on as students acquire the materials at different points of our lessons.
School supplies and STEM activities will mean students are prepared & engaged. My students only have 45 minutes per week of computer time; and they alternate between reading and math programs. The tablets and headphones will allow my students to use online programs to practice more math and experience science in a way that would otherwise not be possible in a classroom setting. Technology is all around us and by providing students the opportunity to further engage and learn about it we are preparing them for the future.
The donations from this project will improve my classroom by reducing the amount of time wasted searching for and borrowing supplies. As well as, give them the opportunity to practice math at their own pace and work on simulated labs that spark their interest in science.
