I teach in a small school district in rural Illinois. We have significant poverty in our district. Many of my students have not experienced the everyday childhood activities that every child should get to participate in. Our classroom is our home away from home. In some cases their most stable home. We have a rocking chair, cushions, stuffed animals, and many books. I would like to purchase a new rug for our classroom. We use our rug to read on, play blocks on, and do math activities on. Some of my students sleep on the rug from time to time. It is the living room of our classroom.
