My students live in a impoverished and sometimes dangerous neighborhood. They don't get to go to many places outside of their community. Many of my students struggle to get by day to day because they either don't have resources or support at home. They come to school and for most, it is their safe haven where it might be the only place they get to read or eat a good meal or feel nurtured and safe. Despite their difficulties and setbacks, they are loving and eager to learn.
My school is a title 1 school with 94% of the students receiving free lunch.
