My students are all artists. They get into the school by auditioning for Vocal, Band, Orchestra, Theater, Dance, Creative Writing, or Visual Art. They are motivated and love learning in creative ways. I have to structure lessons to engage visual and tactile learners. This would be greatly enhanced with technology. I try to have them using their math concepts to create something new. We apply the lessons to help them learn the basics for a hands-on and artistic application. We design, create lyrics, perform songs, act out presentations, build models, and write stories. They learn best when they get to see how the math relates to their lives and their passion. This helps motivate learners and show them the value of what we are covering during class. Out of the box teaching and activities are essential to getting these creative minds to thrive in what can be a logical and procedural subject.
