Imagine walking into your first-grade classroom and not seeing any characters that looked like you in the books you were reading....ever. For many of my students, this is a reality. Ninety-five percent of our scholars are children of color. When my students open books, they do not often find themselves, their families, or their peers represented. My goal is to change this. With the multicultural books and music in this project, you will be helping students see themselves and their cultures represented. You will help encourage pride in who they are and where they come from. This will encourage all of the students in my classroom to share their cultures and recognize the differences in each other.
