Students in my class are able to meet weekly, and sometimes daily, in small groups to practice valuable reading skills. They work with peers and teacher(s) as they read and discuss a variety of texts. Most of the books with multiple copies available to us are outdated or low-interest texts.
My students are in need of books on their own levels that will spark interest, create excitement, and foster thoughtful discussion. I would like to use these books in small groups, but also to allow students to participate with one another in "book clubs" when they are not in small groups.
We will implement essential reading skills into book clubs, and also practice collaborative discussion and reflection.
