With the garden students will be able to practice all they are learning in a hands on way. Students will use their knowledge about measuring (2.MD9 and 3.MD.B4) and data collection through graphing (2.MD.D.10 and 3.MD.B.3) to keep track of how the plants are growing.
This projects will provide the students with real life experiences to read about gardening, research topics, and conduct learning opportunities. Students will be learning more about plants as they conduct research as well as write and journal about what they are learning (w.2.7, W.3.7, and W3.8).
Throughout this project students will be observing gardening and plants in different areas and stages of the lifecycle process (2.LS4-1 and 3.LS1-1). Students will learn about and compare plants in the indoor garden as well as the outdoor garden. They will be observing the plants from seed through the production of the vegetable and then through the process of decomposition in the compost bin.
