I teach in one of the poorest school districts in my state. My classroom has a diverse range of needs, including ESL students, special education students, and honors students. There is very little money for extras like field trips and science equipment, and it makes being an efficient science teacher difficult. I want to send my students to high school prepared and ready to learn, and that's hard to do if they miss out on some of the key experiences and experiments that students in wealthier districts get to participate in. I want to give my students a fighting chance to compete for jobs, college admissions, and anything else they want to be successful with!
