I teach first grade in a small town where there is only one main street and a few red lights. Many of the children that come through the front door each day are often hungry, dirty and live in poverty-stricken homes. The last thing on their mind is taking that Reading or Math test on Friday whenever they are worried about having food to eat over the weekend. Each day I leave work I think of how fortunate I am to have the things that I do in my life. My group of students are hard working and so sweet. They truly make my job easy.
