My students come from Lee's Summit, Missouri. They walk into my classroom each day with their own individual home lives, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles. They are amazing kids and have a willingness to learn and take part in new experiences. My fifth grade students need both online and paper access for the childrens' magazine, Storyworks. Unfortunately, due to some of my students low socioeconomic backgrounds, they do not have access to the types of reading materials at home. In class, my students will use Storyworks to read about current events, fiction stories, poetry, and grammar. They will also be able to annotate right in the magazine. We will have quality discussions and learn to debate current issues. The magazine itself is at a higher level and it will aide in higher quality discussions. Then, they can take the magazine home and share their learning with their families.
