My students will participate in a guided tour of the Eastern State Penitentiary in Pennsylvania. Students will be engaged in an interactive historical inquiry on the creation of the penitentiary, how societal changes effected the penitentiary and its rich historical architecture.
Students will not only learn about the unique history and architecture but also how the prisons history shapes our understanding of the prison system today. Students will use digital devices to collect images and document data for later discussion and presentation.
This experience has the potential to encourage students to engage in dialogue that may deepen the national conversation on criminal justice.
