One word that comes to mind when I describe my students is diverse. Diverse in every way - socioeconomic, culturally, academic level, you name it! However, one thing that makes us all similar is our love of learning, and especially our love of literature that has grown so much this year. We love to read about our favorite characters, write letters to authors, predict what will happen next, and write different endings to many of the chapters we read. When we read together, we are all immersed in the same story, but may take different messages and lessons away from the stories we read. I often notice students seeking out other books written by an author that we have read, which makes me so happy because I feel like I am helping to develop a love of reading. We may come from different backgrounds, but when we read together, we are all focused on a common goal - to dig deep into the books we read and learn all about the characters and their adventures.
