Storytelling is a lost art! I want to help our students develop a love for reading through storytelling while building their social/emotional learning (SEL) skills! I am a school counselor and I love reading stories to our students. I love reading stories that have an SEL theme where students can either learn how to manage their emotions or learn what it takes to be a good friend. What better way is there to teach social emotional skills and build reading fluency than through storytelling?! I have started a storytelling group with our 4th graders that will practice reading and telling a story to our preschool students once a week.
By donating to this project, I will be able to provide my students with various SEL-themed storybooks, tote bags to allow them to practice reading their book at home, t-shirts to promote our group - "Story Spreaders" and incentives for a job well-done.
With your help, we will develop confident readers and be able to "spread" the love of reading throughout our school!
