I'm a sixth grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, along with being our school's drama director. We do a lot of hands on projects with our students that requires them to connect with real world issues. The students are a mixed population of mainly White, African American, and Hispanic students. The students are driven by sports and hands-on learning. The school is a warm, caring environment that supports respect, readiness to learn, and reflection. We believe that by supporting them with positive incentives that interest them they are more likely to reach their goals of higher education and careers. Our drama department is funded through the teachers and ticket sales. The students use our drama club as an outlet for any emotions they've pent up during the day and they really come together as a community to support each other when one student is having a hard time.
