Robotics is a great program for students, but it is a very costly program. Students need to be involved in fundraising and asking for funds. We have a business team within our robotics team. We ask students to create a sponsor letter to be sent to potential businesses who would be willing to support our program. The business team will need a laptop for competition and after school events. Students will record donations on a spreadsheet. Also, students will need to track fundraisers, such as recycling on the laptop. Students also need to track the classrooms that they help service. This can all be done with the laptop. The case is needed to protect the laptop as the fundraising is mostly done outside of the robotics room.
Students will also need to meet weekly to update robotics team on their progress with collecting donations and fundraising. Markers will be needed for students to present their ideas. This is a REAL student-centered team. Students will learn about budgeting, expenditures, and income. Robotics not only teaches students about STEM but also about the financial implications of having such a high cost team. This is their second year in competition and we look forward to a great build season. Go team!
