In a Dual Immersion program, it can very hard to come across authentic books, and when you do they are much more expensive than English books. The Dual Immersion program at my school is very new, we are going into our third year of development. As you may know, district budgets can be very tight in general, but even more when it comes to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
In the world we are living in, it is important for students to learn about Social Justice through diverse characters and experiences. These books will allow my students and I to explore the experiences of a diversity of characters. Students should be represented in the texts they read, but they should learn about other cultures as well.
I ask for you to help my students have these experiences through these books. Additionally, some of the non-fiction texts will support our non-fiction units where students learn more about animals, communities and even the government structures.
