My school is opening a science lab for our pre-k through 5th grade students (including five special education classes.) Teachers in all grade levels will be able to bring classes to the lab to conduct hands-on, inquiry based lessons. The scientific display models of plants, magnets, and the human body will help my students better understand the NGSS standards. Many of my students are second language learners, and having an actual model to manipulate for clarification gives my students a better opportunity to access the curriculum. My students learn in a variety of ways, and having models to hold, inspect, observe, and analyze will meet the needs of my diverse learners. Our students have limited resources at home, and our science lab will provide opportunities for our families to use the lab to explore and learn. The lab will be open for students to use before, during, and after school. This school-wide science lab will expose our students to science activities that they would not normally have access to.
