In Science, students are curious --and when it comes to space travel that curiosity is multiplied x infinity! Our Mission to Mars class will allow students to explore their off-world curiosity. They will research where they will travel to and evaluate the needs, restrictions, and problems of getting there! They will brainstorm and experiment with all facets of living off-world: travel, food, shelter, energy, entertainment, medical, and emergency needs!
The creativity possible with the Makey-An Invention Kit will allow students to expand the possibilities of problem solving in an off-world colony! Student teams will be given challenges in their travel to and in their off world community. Groups will be tasked to use the Makey and the interactive computer results, to decide if they have solved the problem or need to redesign/retest to find a better solution. Collaboration will occur first in their small teams and then class-wide, when they share solutions. Our students will be using very common everyday materials to build circuits, controllers, sensors, codes, warning systems ---everything a new, emerging colony on a new planet might need!
Since the Makey is high interest and hands on, students will be very engaged as they solve issues, and transfer this knowledge to brainstorm and consider applicable solutions to current day problems on Earth.
