Students will be introduced to computer assisted design using Tinkercard (an online website) and have their creations come alive using a 3D Printer and filament. We will begin by introducing how a 3D printer works as we create and print 3D name tags for every student.
Students will then use 3D printing technology to integrate an informational writing and science unit (with lab reports). We will give students the ability to create their own 3D car for experiments about forces and motion allowing students to use art and designs concepts to understand further as to how the wheel size, weight of a vehicle, and size of vehicle have a direct effect on how far the vehicle will travel.
There are infinite possibilities of future uses for CAD and a 3D printer in our second grade. We will take our lead from the students and let their interests guide the future. There is no limit to what they can create. Let their imagination soar with innovation as they continue to wonder, question and seek solutions! Please help us make our student's learning come alive!
